“The Guardian” in its issue of 26th of February has published an article about the innovations
in health care industry. The author of the article describes innovation as
anything that creates new opportunities for improvement or development, but, as
he says: «The truth is we are still a long way from providing the right conditions
for innovation to thrive and permeate across the NHS».
The author also gives a number of reasons for this. Firstly, it’s
absence of concrete and visible goals. Secondly, it’s lack of development,
that’s why many good ideas «are allowed to wither on the vine».
And finally it’s non-recognition of talented and young generation of doctors,
scientists and all people who belong to so-called «core of emerging leaders».
I completely agree with the author’s point of view. In my opinion the
NHS should be build on innovations. Widespread use of innovations within the
health care industry will improve the quality of health care, prevent medical
errors, reduce health care costs, increase administrative efficiencies, and
expand access to affordable health care.
But one of the main problems, which are often arising in different
spheres, is financing. Health care even in the developed countries is still ailing
and in need of help. Yes, medical treatment has made astonishing advances over
the years. But many economists consider that the packaging and delivery of
treatments are often ineffective. Also the well-known problems range from
medical errors, which by some accounts are the eighth leading cause of death,
to the soaring cost of health care.
Quite a big sum of money is
spend for the innovations in health care annually. And technologies are the main drivers of this spending: new drugs that
cost more, new tests that find more diseases to treat, new surgical implants
and other techniques.
“In health care, new technology makes things better, but more
expensive,” says Jonathan Gruber, an economist at MIT who leads a heath-care
group at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
Despite the enormous investment in innovation and the magnitude of the
opportunity for innovators to both do good and do well, many efforts fail,
losing billions of investor dollars along the way. But many
people believe that innovations in the delivery of health care can result in
more-convenient, more-effective, and less-expensive treatments for today’s
time. New drugs, diagnostic methods, drug delivery systems, and medical devices
offer the hope of better treatment and care.
So, probably much of the spending has been worth it,
moreover the health care industry has become a big part of nearly every economy. That makes
sense. Better medicine is buying longer lives.
What is your attitude to innovations in health care industry?
Mikhailenko Elizaveta.
Thanks for the article! it is very informative and touches upon very important sphere. Personally I think ,that it is a good idea to contribute money to NHS and especially to innovations. Medicine should develop and it is impossible without new technologies and new drugs, diagnostic methods which can create new opportunities in healthcare. Besides new innovations create a hope for people who suffer from incurable deseases... May be one day we managed to create drugs which can cure such illnesses. And it will be done thanks to innovations!!!
ОтветитьУдалитьIt was worth reading for me! I suppose your point of view that widespread use of innovations within the health care industry will improve the quality of health care and prevent medical errors. But the stumbling block is money! I don't think that using of innovations will make health care affordable. It will be much more expensive. And investing more money in medicine the government will have to make up the budget by ordinary people. And, summing up, we have contradictory position: on the one hand we need innovations for our better life, and on the other hand, we will have to pay for it.
ОтветитьУдалитьThanks for the article, Elizaveta! I think that healthcare is one of the most important topics in every country. Health care industry must constantly develop. It can't be done without innovations. But there always should be money to create something new or to improve something old, but not every budget can afford to spend big sum of money for health sphere. I guess that problem of healtcare and its improving will have been alive in many years.
ОтветитьУдалитьThanks for your decision to choose this article about the NHS. I think that heathcare is one of the most important spheres in our modern life.
ОтветитьУдалитьI share your views on development of the NHS and innovations in health care industry. Nowadays we have a lot of strong and incurable deaseases, including cancer. Because of these problems, we need to find a good cure and try to equip hospitals with the most up-to-date equipment. We have a lot of talented and brilliant scientists who can improve our national healthcare. The problem is in money. The government should trade money for impovement of the NHS, but, unfortunately, some countries do not have so big sum of money to renew equipment at least.
I hope that problems in heathcare will be solved soon.
Thanks a lot for the chosen article!
ОтветитьУдалитьI'm completely sure that health care is one of the most important things in our lives and all the people must be provided lots of modern medicine, equipment and experts in public health service to live as long and happily as possible. I think it's necessary to contribute money to innovations because we have enormous deseases without any helpful treatment. The problem is not every government can guarantee it because of lack of huge sum of money or unwillingness to solve the health problems. In my opinion, the government shoud do its best to provide the people all the necessary medical needs.
